Between Lake and Sky
Atmospheric paintings inspired by the light, water and wild shores of Lake Huron.
Artist Statement
My work is inspired by the quiet beauty and changing atmosphere of the Great Lakes, particularly the shores and landscapes of Michigan. I am drawn to the way light transforms familiar places—softening a shoreline, illuminating grasses, filtering through trees, or creating a fleeting glow across the water.
Working in an impressionistic style, I simplify forms and build atmosphere through expressive color, light, and layered brushwork. My paintings are less about documenting a specific place and more about capturing the feeling of being there—the stillness of a shoreline, the openness of the water, the movement of birds through a marsh, or the wonder of a child discovering the beach.
Nature is central to my work. I often incorporate water, grasses, wildlife, flowers, and human figures to create paintings that feel peaceful, immersive, and connected to the natural world, including biophilic images. I am particularly interested in the relationship between people and place, and in creating images that invite viewers to slow down and experience a moment of beauty.
My goal is to create paintings that evoke a sense of peace, light, and connection—works that allow the viewer to step into the scene and experience not only what they see, but what the landscape makes them feel.
